Welcome to The Isle of Skye’s North West Coast
From wild swims to good food and hidden gems — everything worth discovering in Dunvegan and the North West of Skye.
DUNVEGAN & THE NORTH WEST OF SKYE
Dunvegan sits on the edge of Skye’s wild north west, where the land opens out to sea and the pace of life softens just enough to notice it. Days here are shaped by shifting light, big skies and the quiet rhythm of the coast — whether that’s a walk to Coral Beach, a slow coffee in the village, or watching the fishing boats drift across the loch. It’s a place that doesn’t try too hard, and doesn’t need to — the beauty is simply there, waiting for you to find it.
At its heart is Dunvegan Castle, home to the MacLeod clan for over 800 years, quietly anchoring the village in its long history. But beyond the castle walls, life in Dunvegan has always been shaped by the land and sea — crofting, fishing and a strong sense of community that still runs through the village today. It’s this blend of history and everyday life that gives Dunvegan its character — not polished or staged, but real, lived-in, and all the more special for it.

Reached via the scenic A87 and A863 roads, the village sits around 20 miles (32 km) from Portree — Skye’s main town — with the journey taking approximately 30 minutes by car.
Whether arriving via the Skye Bridge from the mainland, travelling north from Fort William, or touring the island’s famous sights, Dunvegan offers a peaceful and picturesque destination at the heart of some of Skye’s most memorable scenery.
From here, visitors are perfectly placed to discover landmarks such as Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point, Coral Beach and the rugged landscapes of the Duirinish Peninsula.
